I love August weddings, especially when they are relaxed, easy-going, and with lots of happy people. Ruth and Trevor’s wedding was all of these things and more.
Set at the Guildhall in Hadleigh, it was a really lovely day, set against some brilliant sunshine and nice hot weather. I joined the happy couple at their house, where Ruth had just had her hair done, and was already wearing her dress, that she made herself as well as her bouquet. Impressive stuff.
After some family shots with Ruth children and Trevor (culminating in a nice bubbly photo), I followed the groom down to the Guildhall, a Grade I listed medieval building that was built when Hadleigh was an important woollen cloth town. Nice venue, the ceremony room has impressive wooden beams, function room and lovely garden with lots of interesting areas to take photos. It was enhanced with some good old bunting also made by Ruth, and other lovely touches like quotes on the beams.
The day soon went, after the ceremony everyone had a nice relaxed time in the garden while we had fun getting family shots in what was once the kitchens, only the fireplace and beam remain now but it makes an awesome backdrop. And they were a very nice bunch of people too, with Trevor’s grandchildren stealing the limelight on many occasions.
Good speeches, Ruth’s brother Clifford had us laughing, and the big brick wall behind them was a really good backdrop. I was a happy photographer. I then joined the band for some barbeque noms, can’t beat a barbey. The catering was superb, courtesy of the The Jolly Meat Company in Hadleigh. Their staff were really good, very attentive.
The evening began with Sunshine on Leith playing for the first dance by the Proclaimers. Look it up, it’s very sweet, as were the happy couple. Space cake, an acoustic groove bad (featuring Ruth’s son Johnny) then entertained us for the rest of the evening, cue many photos of dancing and merriment (my favourite kind).
In conclusion, Ruth and Trevor are a dear couple, and it was a real pleasure documenting their day (especially the shots with the band). If you know them, ask either them or myself for the password to their gallery.
